The Dakota Duck March Story THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, N.D. - In the late 1970's, Uncle Sam saw fit to dispatch me to Thule, Greenland. During that region's 24-hour dark period, the experience seemed like a year-long attempt to drive me insane. That place was the only piece of ground as remote as what I saw in North Dakota on the first morning of October. Standing on a hill at daybreak, in a howling wind that seemed to never stop, the four of us laid eyes on a scene we had been looking forward to for several months. Below us lay a landscape free of streetlights, barking dogs and blinking lights from radio towers. The sounds of traffic as folks hustle about in the typical struggle for the legal tender were noticeably absent. There was nothing but prairie, the wild ducks of North Dakota and us. This parcel of the Prairie Pothole Region was a land of laid-back pace, and as one of my companions would remark before the end of the week... For more of this story, click here
4 HRC Started passes and 2 Puppy Stake wins. Rainy achieved her SHR title at 8.5 months.....the Puppy Stake wins were at 7 months. She'll run seasoned tests starting in Sept.....at 13 months. Rainy is 100% amateur trained.....actually.....I'd hesitate to even call myself an amateur, this is my first attempt....but she is absolutely the most trainable puppy I've ever seen in my life....and a joy to have in the house. I looked at what seemed like a thousand litters, while looking for a new pup to try and fill the shoes of my past dog, Gunner. I lost Gunner in an unfortunate incident this past October. When I finally decided to get serious and start over, I immediately looked at Dusty. My only hold back at first was the long drive or the extra money in shipping a pup, since all the current litters were far away. Knowing what I know now...I would've driven to Canada and back for this pup!!! She is absolutely amazing. I had heard great things about Mike Gibson and Mysti. Team that up with the Downtown Crew, and you can't beat it!!! Dusty caught my eye at the inaugural WRC a few years ago. After watching him run, I knew my next pup would be out of him. She came a little sooner than I expected but nevertheless I'm more than happy with my choice. She has an amazing amount of drive, and focus for such a young dog. I have been amazed every week with how fast she progresses. Her marking ability is through the roof!! She is now 5 months old and has been doing simple multiples for a few months now, as well as longer singles, and shorter singles with a little concept. She charges through cover, and fights the factors well!! I'm really excited to see how she will be running blinds, because her lining ability is amazing! As soon as she gets out of her box, she is already looking at the gunners, and as soon as she returns with a bird, she is focusing on the next mark. She's not a pup you have to work to get her attention in the field; she's really learning the game! It's hard not to go too fast with her, just because of her ability and maturity! She literally acts twice her age. I've had to catch myself several times and slow down, and just let her be a puppy. We've been doing some informal casting drills, and sight blinds in the yard with short distances, just building her confidence. She's awesome in the house, and has a great on/off switch. Plus she is absolutely beautiful! Mike and Team Downtown have done a great job pairing these two animals up again for a repeat breeding!! My only regret is not getting two of them! Waterway's Uptown Jezibelle

Bella competed in the NUCS National Finals last week in the Amateur Flushing Division (for dogs up to 3 years old). She placed 5th and had the highest scoring run in the division, unfortunately it takes two runs for a final score and I let her get too far out on her other run and she flushed her third bird out of range(handler error).That third bird in the bag would have won the championship for her. At 11 months she did an awesome job and will be a top contender in tournament hunting. The litter is turning out very well, have had great reports on them. Waterway's Uptown Jezibelle will compete in the open class starting early this fall at an extremely young age for that class and I predict a possible Champion title by this time next year.
